Mawana Sugars India Open Marathon, 23 Dec 2007

I participated in the Mawana Sugars Half Marathon on Sunday and finished with a PR timing of 1.56. The race has been an annual feature on Delhi's running circuit & this time the route was being tried out for 2010 Commonwealth Games marathon..the race was held under the aegis of Atheletics Federation (AFI).

The top winners were from the Indian Army & other paramilitary services (BSF,CRPF)..the categories were :
1) Full Marathon - Open mens, Open women, Veterans ( above 40 yrs ) - Men & Women
2) Half Marathon - Open mens, Open women, Veterans - Men & Women

Overall a good route ( 2 flyovers on the way)..nice cool weather(....the race started at 9.00 from Guru Harkishan Public School,India Gate) and some 4000 runners.

Hey Param,

I just read this when I came to know about the Mawana Sugar run... great going man. The 1:46 was absolutely amazing... especially considering the big difference this time had with your VDHM time. Congratulations!!!

I had come to know about this event somewhere, but had to miss this since it was during my vacation time and I was out.

Hi Tanvir,
The Mawana run is not promoted well at all...but it has been an annual feature & attracts lots of running enthusiasts.and of course runners from the services.
The organisers are Shriram Group..this time they were testing the Communwealth Run route.

An obsrvation : When you approach a run with lots of anticipation, the performance is usually low (maybe due to anxiety/stress )..like what happened at VDHM..I just felt too tired..the faster start could be a factor too.

During Mawana I set myself a slow start & tried to conserve my energy..also i went into the run without any anticipation at all.

Next is Mumbai.. Wish you could make it for the same!

Param
